Abstract
  • The author observes that this is a critical time for the relationship of the Archdiocese of Chicago to the black community. Employing a method of theological reflection, the author researches the contextual diversity found among Catholics of African descent living in the Archdiocese--lived experiences, religious traditions and cultures. Particular attention is given to historical development and the reality of racism. With the voices of black Catholic theologians, the author brings these diverse realities into dialogue, surfacing implications for pastoral practice and leadership formation. The author makes specific recommendations for action to be taken by the archdiocese.
