Abstract
  • Many immigrant children have had to experience the tension that is the result of a necessity to either acculturate or remain true to their indigenous cultures. The tension stems from the fact that those who immigrate consequently face cultural changes. With such tension come the maladies that are often, if not always, psychological in nature. Children of immigrants are caught between cultures and have to make a choice to either immerse in their adopted culture or keep their traditional, ancestral culture. When they fail to successfully negotiate this stage of their life, they may be problematic, and left on their own, they become a source of stress for their families, their communities, and society at large.
