- Abstract
- Families in which ordained elders of the United Methodist Church are married to spouses with careers, particularly those that are geographically specific, face difficult challenges managing and balancing the demands of the itinerancy with those of the spouse's career. The author interviewed couples fracing those challenges to gain insights into how families navigate the itinerancy with integrity while honoring the multiple covenants involved. Through analyzing the historical shifts in the practice of itinerancy, the author suggests how further evolution of the itinerant system could assist these families in fulfilling their calls to miinstry and vocation.
