Abstract
  • This project demonstrates that understanding the church as a community, biblical hospitality can provide vision and motivation for mission and outreach in a congregation. The project applies the concept of hospitality to the development of a specialized older adult ministry. The study examines the characteristics and needs of older adults and notes the biases held by society against the elderly. By using insights from social marketing theory, hospitality was expressed by carrying out need assessment, program design, implementation, and evaluation for an older adult ministry in a particular congregation. The study concludes that a clear understanding of biblical hospitality can move a congregation to reach out beyond itself, in this case to older adults.
