Abstract
  • The purpose of the project was to test the relevance and significance of evangelistic preaching among the United Methodist Men who had expressed a need for the experience of the gospel's power for effective Christianity. The need was addressed through Bible study, fellowship, six evangelistic worship and preaching services, congregational response and evaluation, the response of a working committee of six persons, evaluation and critical reflection with the preacher. The content of the messages preached emphasized the non-negotiable essentials of the Christian message as the kerygma for the context. The thesis of the project was that kerygmatic preaching plays a central role in the local church's ministry of leading people to the experiential relationship with God in Christ by the Holy Spirit. The men's responses, decisions and demands for such preaching on Sunday morning showed the necessity for such preaching. The kerygmatic preaching that is the power of God unto salvation is content rather than method oriented.
