Abstract
  • In the 60 years that Southern Baptists have been ministering in Spain, mission strategy and the role of the missionary have changed markedly. Many current programs and activities are based upon historical traditions. The author saw a need to evaluate present procedures in the light of history feeling that such a study would reveal any effective or fragmented practices and policies, strengthen the present ministry, and contribute to the design of future strategy. After reading extensively in the areas of biblical and theological foundations for missions, missiology, historiography and Spanish history, the author thoroughly investigated the records, minutes, documents and archives of the Baptist mission to Spain and interviewed missionaries and Spaniards having a personal knowledge of the history of the mission. Letters and documents were obtained from other religious agencies. This dissertation/project represents the findings and recommendations of the author.
