Abstract

This project demonstrates that involvement in the world beyond the church is a valuable resource for relevant preaching. Through comparing life-issues identified by church members with those identified by members of the community who called the police for help, the author exposed issues the preacher would be unaware of unless his or her contact goes beyond the church. Further, through the comparison of sermon feedback provided by church members and by non-church attenders, the author highlighted differences in the way preaching is perceived by the two groups.
