Abstract
  • The author gained knowledge about single mothers in poverty from such diverse sources as Jeffrey Sachs (poverty conditions world-wide/Millennium Development Goals), Pamela Couture (women and children in poverty), John Perkins (urban ministry) and Amy Oden (God's welcoming to all communities). In searching for concrete programming, she considered direction from the Hebrew Prophets, Jesus' words and life, John Wesley's writings and the material provided by Ruby Payne and her publishing company supporting Bridges out of poverty. The program, Gettin' ahead in a just getting-by world, was most successful for the the 16 people who took the 15 week course.
