Abstract
  • Leadership literature has found that executives who successfully navigate critical situations score high on emotional intelligence inventories (Daniel Goleman, Reuven Bar-On). Biblical wisdom literature also provides guidance in navigating life situations (Roland Murphy, James Crenshaw). The current study hypothesizes that high emotional intelligence will assist clergy in navigating critical leadership situations. To test this hypothesis, twenty-six pastors were administered the BarOn Emotional Quotient Inventory. A group profile was generated, and some findings were significant. Results have implications for hiring, evaluating, and training pastors. The study also provides suggestions for growing pastoral wisdom and emotional intelligence.
