Abstract

In this paper, I articulate my model of ministry by reflecting upon how I had previously engaged in ministry as a pastor, how as the coordinator of Baltimore's Holy Boldness Regional Center (HBRC) I perceive its ministry, the church's work of God's presence, and share the theology that undergirds the ministry to which I have been called. As a result of this study, the followings conclusions can be made. (1) The coordinator of the HBRC must be permitted to participate in team decision making as an equal. (2) The coordinator of the HBRC must be empowered to make decisions pertaining to the center's ministry independent of the team of district superintendents when necessary. (3) A process of discernment needs to be established and implemented to discern the types of ministries needed in Baltimore. This process should be inclusive of as many voices as possible. (4) An advisory committee needs to be established to address concerns of the center, structural and ministerial. (5) There is a basic flaw between available resources and the authority to pursue ministries, rendering the HBRC dysfunctional. If the HBRC is to effectively engage in ministries, the center's coordinator must have access to resources when they are needed to meet the center's objectives.
