Abstract
  • The thesis is that a theology and theory of lay counseling can be developed and communicated to the laity. The theology is based on an understanding of the imago Dei, the effects of the fall, and the potential of redemption. The theory is eclectic with three components: 1) relationship draws on Carl Rogers; 2) responsibility draws on Glasser's reality therapy; 3) religious resources draws on several pastoral counselors. A training manual was developed and tested. It was found that lay persons could comprehend and use the theology and theory.
