  • This thesis proposes preaching the parables of Jesus as a way of reaching an audience shaped and influenced by postmodernity. This thesis examines postmodern thinking and provides an analysis of the parabolic form so as to assist the pastor in utilizing parables as a window for preaching. Postmodern thinking is reviewed, its characteristics identified and essential cultural assumptions highlighted. The parables then are examined within the larger text, special words or phrases clarified, cultural factors noted, the subject of the text and its complement identified, the surprise element within the the parable pointed out, exegetical and homiletical outlines suggested, the main idea briefly stated, a verse by verse analysis provided and considerations important in preaching the parable identified.
