- Abstract
- How a consolidating parish both chooses a common site for worship and empowers members of all the consolidating parishes to re-shape that place is crucial to their formation as a new parish community. The empowerment this brings may offset the feelings of helplessness, anger and disappointment among those adversely affected when their church building is closed. Relevant research in consolidations is brought into dialogue with Church documents related to liturgy and the place where it takes happens, as well as to scholarship on theories of space land place. Practical suggestions are offered to those leading a parish consolidation.
