- Abstract
- The thesis is that the sermon is an art form and that is is appropriate to think of it in this way from the point of view of the Reformed, Free-Church tradition. The sermon was seen as a literary art form and focused on elements like the use of story, metaphor, evocative symbol, and mythic language. It used a questionnaire to examine the responses people make to sermons. It concluded that nearly two-thirds of the time the things which engaged the listerners were the artistic components of the sermons they heard.
