The Vigil for the Deceased in the Order of Christian Funerals is being lead by Roman Catholic laypersons that are often not adequately trained, nor prepared to preside and preach. The author researched the needs through training sessions, surveys, focus groups, and interviews with four experts. The result is the Ministry of Hope and Consolation Funeral Vigil Formation Program that includes a presenter guide, a participant booklet, discernment surveys, and a six-session video-assisted resource. Ministry of Hope and Consolation provides volunteer funeral ministers with knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to effectively preside and preach at the Vigil for the Deceased.
