Abstract

The author explores church renewal through ministry to the local community. In chapter one he describes the church, using both subjective and objective indicators ro renewal. In chapter two he gives a theological foundation based on Jesus as servant. In chapter three he presents a design for renewal that includes a sermon series, education class series, and a retreat. Chapter four is an evaluation. Results were mixed. To an extent the church developed a spirit of risk and a vision of community service. A conviction that the community can undergo change and a belief that cultural values can be modified did not develop.
