Abstract

'Lay pastors' lead many Russian churches, but few of them have access to formal theological education, which often consists of Western forms and content. Russian church leaders need to have a significant voice in the development of appropriate training models that will prepare these lay pastors for ministry. Russian church planters know a great deal about the nature of the new churches, and can offer insights about the kind of training needed to prepare pastors for them. This study analyzes the responses of seventy-two Russian church planters, and identifies important components that should be included in lay pastor training.
