  • Contemporary church growth analysts have identified what they consider to be contributing factors related to church growth and decline and formalized theories known as church growth and decline principles. This project determines the value of these principles by reviewing and summarizing some theologians, including those of the Wesleyan or Nazarene tradition, identifying and evaluating the contributing factors, and determining by a case study of local Nazarene churches the value of church growth and decline principles. The underlying theological emphases in this project suggest that in American society, at least in urban settings, the church declines as it seeks to preserve its homogeneous unit principle as interpreted by some contemporary church growth analysts.
