Abstracto

The thesis presents a case study of three multicultural parishes that endeavored to comprehend the dynamics of ethnic communities within their respective parishes and the extent of their divisions. The case study meticulously examined the elements of ethnic coexistence, cultural and linguistic dominance, disparities in ethnic integration into the new community, power imbalances, and parish administrative structures as potential root causes of and perpetuation of ethnic segregation within multicultural Catholic parishes. In response to the challenges posed by a divided parish and the aspiration to transform it into a reflection of the Kingdom of God, as described in the Lumen Gentium, which portrays the church as the beginning of the Kingdom of God, the thesis proposes interculturality grounded on the perichoretic community as a transformative praxis. This approach has the potential to transform division into communion due to its inherent characteristics of interdependence, mutuality, and respect and appreciation for diversity.
