Abstract
  • The purpose of the project was to develop and test a model for teaching the Old Testament to undergraduate students at a state university and to investigate the legitimacy of such teaching as a form of ministry. The author taught Survey of the Old Testament at East Texas State University in the fall of 1985. The course design included an understanding of the Old Testament as a canon of liberation and the teaching model focused on the development of a dialogical relationship between the students and the material. Evaluation was carried out through a process of testing and personal interviews, and the author concluded that the model led the students to both cognitive and affective transformation and that teaching the Old Testament at a state university is a legitimate form of ministry.
