  • The purpose of this project was to explore the black Baptist association arrangement known as dual alignment. This practice of affiliating with more than one convention raises questions as to the theological and practical problems it may engender for black Baptists. This research raises the question of why dual alignment? This project examined dual alignment though the lens of ordination, contrasting the standards of American Baptists with those of National Baptists, USA Inc. Black and white church leaders, most with over 20 years in pastoral ministry, were interviewed and they shared their concerns, hopes, and understanding of dual alignment.
