Abstract
  • This is a case study of six people who, during Lenten Sundays, told their experiences of what it was like to be distanced from others, from God, and from themselves. Using the concept 'outside the city gates,' these stories are not unlike Jesus' own, especially his last days and hours. Findings go far beyond community-building, and include such positive results as varying degrees of self-knowledge, healing, spiritual growth, encouragement, and transformation of teller and hearer alike.
