Abstract
  • This project explores worship practices of numerically growing congregations of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the Western United States in order to suggest necessary principles for reversing the decline of worship attendance generally throughout the denomination. That decline corresponds to a social shift from print-based culture to dominance of electronic media. Viable witness in the twenty-first century will depend on dynamic interaction between denominational tradition, the larger church, and contemporary society. Disciples liturgists will need skills in social analysis, ritual competence, and conflict resolution while exhibiting spiritual passion, missional clarity, and willingness for liturgical reassessment.
