Abstract
  • A collaborative approach was developed between prison chaplains and St. Margaret's Church, Homer, NY. This project examined the problem of the inhospitable attitudes of the church members toward ex-offenders who are returning to society. This education model offered a spiritually designed program provided by prison chaplains for church members to help change their attitudes so they would welcome ex-offenders into the pews. With a welcoming faith community to support ex-offenders upon release the high recidivism rate was addressed. The strategy that was used was a qualitative research design with Pre and Post Tests to measure the effectiveness of the program.
