Abstract
  • The traditional lectionary can be a valuable guide for Baptist preachers in text selection. The author researched and validated the centrality of preaching in the Baptist churches and shows that although Baptist theology of Scripture is high, it is characterized by narrowness seen in the use of favorite Scripture themes and biblical books. He researched Baptist pulpit giants and states their method of text selection of waiting upon the Holy Spirit. He writes of successfully introducing the lectionary to a Baptist congregation and concludes that it is truly a worthwhile preaching aid.
