- Abstract
- The purpose of this project is to design a training program and to train associate ministers in biblical preaching at Bible Way Community Baptist Church in Irving, Texas. The program will be for nine weeks, meeting two hours per week, and will be taught by the writer of this paper, who is also the project leader. The project leader will combine the mechanics of biblical preaching with historical and cultural experiences of preaching in the African-American church. This project will produce a handbook for biblical preaching in the African-American church. The handbook will include all nine lessons, handouts, exercises, and an annotated bibliography. The handbook could be used to train associate ministers in their local church, a retreat, or in self-help. For this project, the handbook will be used to train associate preachers in the project leader's church during a nine-week program. As a result of this project, participants will be able to preach sermons that are biblically based and culturally relevant to the African-American community.
