Abstract
  • The ministry of the word can be designed to integrate preaching and teaching, and to incorporate the intersection of an identified spiritual need with a corresponding biblical resource. A life situational approach to preaching and teaching was developed for naval deployment, in light of the twentieth century American life situational preaching of Harry Emerson Fosdick and Edgar N Jackson, and Lewis Sherrill's theology and practice of Christian education. A religious program resource (the study guide) was developed and was used successfully by naval shipboard chaplains. The study guide can be used effectively by chaplains and trained lay readers.
