Abstract
  • Located in Montgomery, Alabama, Bryant Missionary Baptist Church is a 96-year-old congregation hesitant to embrace the present move of God's spirit among them. Traditionally, the church recognizes and accepts the gifts of shouting, singing, and preaching but a major part of the congregation draws the line of acceptance with other gifts, such as prophecy or speaking in tongues, that have begun to manifest during services. The author has studied the congregation's beliefs in spiritual gifts through surveys, researched the foundation for Baptist beliefs and offered a workshop to introduce the gifts and assess participants' gifts through a gifts inventory.
