- Abstract
- An informal survey of ten United Church of Christ congregations in western Massachusetts during the spring of 1981 revealed only one incorporated the Psalms into its worship with any regularity. Being aware of the importance of musical expression, the author, a pastor and musician, compiled The Richmond Psalter. Intended as an introduction to psalmody for those with little background, it contains musical settings for 28 psalms. Each psalm is introduced by brief commentary regarding its formal structure and theological implications. The preface is devoted to a discussion of psalmody was developed in the author's church, while the introduction is devoted to a presentation of the various traditions of psalm singing.
