Abstract
  • The purpose of this project was to develop a process that would enable a local congregation to evaluate its ministries and develop a mission statement that would clarify its future ministries. The premise applied was that a congregation needs to have opportunity to interact with the creation of its own unique mission statement to ensure the validity and implementation of its mission statement. The developmental components included an initial all-church survey, an advisory council of key leadership representatives, an adult Sunday Bible school curriculum, a sermon series, deacon home meetings, congregational meetings, a subsequent all-church survey and a short quiz to test congregational ability to articulate the summary slogan of the church's mission statement. The resulting content and language of the mission statement was derived from congregational feedback which led to its understanding, ownership and significant ability for congregational articulation of its mission statement.
