Abstract
  • The purpose of this project was to develop a program involving a group of lay persons in Bible study groups using the New Common Lectionary as a resource to determine what scriptures would be studied and preached each Sunday morning. There were two other groups of lay persons that either studied on their own, or did not study at all. The study extended over an eight week period in an effort to determine how well persons who participated in the groups, who also contributed to the sermon preparation, understood the message and text that was used as the basis for the sermon. The project which was conducted at Grace United Methodist Church in Arlington, Tex, increased the lay persons' interest in the Bible.
