Abstract
  • This applied research project examined the elementary Sunday School curriculum produced by the Baptist Sunday School committee of the American Baptist Association. A program evaluation instrument was prepared in the form of a survey that was included in every teacher's manual of the beginner, primary and junior curriculum during the summer 2005 quarter (June, July, August). Through the use of thirty definitive statements and three open-ended questions, the evaluation instrument examined the quality and effectiveness of four areas of the curriculum as observed by the teacher: the teacher's manual, the learner's manual, the make and take portion, and the visual aids. The author found that the curriculum researched did not help the teacher teach the Bible as accurately, plainly, age-appropriately and applicationally as it should. In practical terms, this means the study found strengths to be built upon and weaknesses to be corrected.
