  • This study deals with retiring Army chaplains and their transition from military to civilian life, and more particularly with the problems encountered as they returned or did not return to parish ministry. A questionnaire was sent to United Methodist chaplains who had retired between the years 1975-1980 with a high level of response. The instrument sought information about the past life pattern of the respondent and whether the person desired to return to ministry and was successful. Questions were raised concerning difficulties experienced in placement and in the role the Commission of Chaplains and Related Ministries of the UMC played in the process. Results were tabulated and discussed.
