- Abstract
- Thesis: families who have experienced attempted teenage suicide will benefit from the support of clergy and congregations who effectively embody hope and who willingly walk with them on their journey from despair to hope. Method: from the fields of suicidology, death and dying, theology, and pastoral care, the author presents characteristics of adolescent suicidal behaviour, explores despair and hope, applies these understandings to the process of healing, and compares the research to informed responses from United Church of Christ pastors. Results: comments of the responding pastors indicate that, when representatives of the faith community listen and respond to suicidal teens and their families, there is a positive impact made in the healing process.
