This study compares and contrasts the perceptions of the identity of the United Church of Christ denomination held by denominational personnel and print resources as well as lay members within a geographical area of the denomination. The study is conducted through reading and analysis of the print resources, interviews with denominational personnel, extensive questionnaires to lay members of the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference of the United Church of Christ and interviews with several selected congregations. The study demonstrates a clear desire among laity for an articulated theology and leadership in areas of ethics and moral standards.
