- Abstract
- The primary question of the project is 'what is salvation and its relationship to liturgy from a Wesleyan perspective?' The setting is western Chesterfield County, Virginia, whose population will grow from 14,700 to 32,700 in the next ten years. The author is the founding pastor of a United Methodist Church chartered in 1987 in Chesterfield. Two challenges provided the impetus for the project. One, finding a common religious practice among a diverse people, and two, expanding participation in the liturgy. Advent and Christmas Eve worship services were selected to meet both challenges. The church involved hundreds of volunteers who created a setting that allowed two thousand people to practice worship.
