Abstract
  • The question of how local congregations become missional churches is an issue in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. This article explores the translatability of certain biblical leadership patterns across different cultural contexts throughout church history. In particular, it focuses on the impact specific leadership patterns have on the development of a missional identity within a particular congregation and, utilizing field tests conducted in two Presbyterian congregations, assesses the potential for repositioning the role of the Ruling/Teaching elder in order to foster missional self-awareness.
