- Abstract
- Drawing upon the disciplines of theology, philosophy, formative spirituality, and biology/psychology to investigate aspects of learned helplessness, locus of control, attributional style, and posttraumatic stress disorder in adults who had been abused as children and who eventually sought pastoral counseling, the author reflected on how the above factors might affect hope, freedom, responsibility, and response-ability in the abused. This qualitative research considered the aforementioned aspects in terms of human formation, deformation, reformation, and transformation. Hope was highlighted as a way of helping the abused revision their life through life-promoting possibilities for a hope-filled future.
