Abstract
  • This project claims that the small process group is a unique component of CPE educational methodology, but that little is known about its origin or its place in current supervisory theory and practice. The project summarizes eighty articles from the literature, the author's reading of 100 theory papers written by supervisory candidates, and the results of the viewing of videotapes of process group sessions run by fifteen CPE supervisors. The author's application of a group theory based on the psychoanalytic tradition and object relations explicitly integrates student experience in the small group with student learning about group process.
