Abstract
  • This thesis present an integrated biblical, theological and psychological perspective on marriage and family. The theme, creation-fall-redemption-restoration, is the overarching frame work for interpretation. Niebuhr's 'Christ and Culture' provides a framework for relating faith and science. Psychodynamic theories serve a critical role in understanding developmental contributions to adult functioning. Bader & Pearson (1988) provide a model of relationship development. Systems theory provides insights for understanding the nature of Christian community. Kirwan's (1984) model of Christian counseling is compared to cognitive behavioral models. These serve as a foundation for developing an integrated approach to counseling. These principles are illustrated with case material.
