Abstract
  • This study of the theory and practice of spiritual therapy explores the relationship between Swedenborg's and Jung's psychodynamic structures of the human mind and the practice of pastoral counnseling. Both men use a process approach to human psychodynamics of growth and change. Their models of the structure of the human mind foster the inclusion of God in the therapeutic setting. Both theories use dreams, journal keeping, active imagination and dialogue with spirits and archetypes to achieve their goals. This study is informative for any pastoral counselor who attempts to reconcile the creative tension between the pastoral and counseling dimensions of the pastoral counseling profession.
