  • Preacher formation happens in more ways and places than in a seminary classroom. How does a disabled working-class woman find her voice to become a preacher in a mainline Protestant denomination? Does she have something new to say to a congregation? How does her particular preaching style interface with a small, rural congregation in the midst of change? Using liberation theology, new homiletic theories and autobiography, this paper will explore some of the complexities of preacher formation. It will also look at how preacher modeling and preaching that stresses advocacy, solidarity, inclusivity, and relational priority effects a congregation seeking its own voice.
