- Abstract
- This thesis examines the role of the Advent Christian Church in the 21st century, namely through looking at the relationships between denominations and discipleship. To explore the role of denominations and discipleship, this thesis analyzes the relationship between traditional and contemporary forms of discipleship and denominational vitality. Specifically, it examines the role of the Advent Christian denomination in the lives of a group of worshippers at Northside Community Church. Using adult learning theory and social constructivism, this study reveals how one group of believers has constructed their organizational identities within the Advent Christian denomination and how relationships with other disciples who proclaim to follow Jesus Christ impact their system of beliefs. Utilizing Northside Community Church as an example, this thesis demonstrates that denominational churches can thrive and succeed in the 21st century if they are willing to pursue commonalities rather than a focus on doctrinal differences.
