Abstract

My project goal was to provide mental health skills to selected hospice care nurses at Amedisys Hospice in Hamilton, Alabama. My project utilized the equipping model with three primary goals. The first goal was to research and gather resources related to mental health skills. This research provided a thorough annotated bibliography approved by my expert evaluator in mental health skills. The second goal was to develop a curriculum based on the essential skills identified. The evaluation of this curriculum included a curriculum rubric and the mentorship of my curriculum expert. The third goal was to equip selected hospice nurses with mental health skills. Pretests and posttests were used to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction in equipping skills and the outcomes of using those skills. I believe that the curriculum produced by this project helped nurses in dealing with stress, depression, and grief associated with hospice work. I created a stepby-step process that nurses can administer themselves, from assessment to therapy, resulting in more balanced and happier lives.
