Abstract
  • Changes in twentieth-century American society have resulted in a partial loss of identity for individuals and social institutions. This project examines the nature of the church through selected biblical, theological, literary, and sociological studies dealing with identity marking characteristics. Congregational identity is an evolving, elusive concept. Dominant themes can help to discern some of its basic qualities. The project develops a process incorporating storytelling to bring together the other selected descriptive aspects, assisting church leaders gain some understanding of the identity of their congregations.
