- Abstract
- The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a decline in support for missions in the Evangelical Mennonite Conference (EMC), to identify contributing factors to a decline, and to indicate a corrective response. The study employed qualitative and quantitative methods via surveys and interviews of missionaries, church leaders, and lay members within the EMC. The study determined that there has been a decline with multiple mitigating factors. Decentralization, lack of visionary leadership, and the absence of a biblical model of recruitment within the local church were identified as major causes of a decline in missions.
