Abstract
  • The author investigated the spiritual lives and ministerial experience of Catholic lay healthcare chaplains serving in the United States. She compared their lives and ministry with her research on shamans and shamanism across cultures, as well as with the ministerial life and healing ministry of Jesus Christ. Following the method of practical theology, i.e., a praxis-theory-praxis approach, the author began with the experience of Catholic lay chaplains. She concluded with pastoral recommendations for chaplains, educators and formation directors involved in the training and supervision of future lay chaplains and healthcare ministers.
