Abstract
  • This thesis validates the hypothesis that participation in the liturgy can be enhanced by reflection on personal life experience in light of sacramental consciousness. Despite the vast energy poured into the renewal of Roman Catholic liturgy, this project indicates that many Catholics still do not find liturgical celebration to be an adequate expression of their search for, and expression of, God. Study groups were devised to raise sacramental consciousness. A comparison of responses made on reflection sheets before and after sessions indicates that the sacramental process had become overshadowed by sacramental events; and for many these events had become empty rituals. Liturgical formation can renew sacramental celebrations.
