Abstract
  • Roman Catholic catechetics has yet to update Catholic adults in a contemporary sacramental theology which links sacramental commitment with social justice. The historical development of the Roman Catholic tradition's sacramental theology as delineated in the Baltimore Catechism, Thomas Aquinas, and seminary manuals provides the basis for this overview of selected works from Vatican Council II, official post-conciliar documents, and theologians Edward Schillebeeckx, Karl Rahner, Johann Baptist Metz, and Juan Luis Segundo. The research served as the basis for the instructional material developed for parents and catechists of children preparing for eucharist and reconciliation at St Charles Parish, San Diego, California.
