Abstract
  • In a case study of a declining United Methodist congregation in central Pennsylvania, the author applies the principles learned in Clinical Pastoral Education and its theological foundations for pastoral care and ministerial training as a diagnostic tool for bringing about change. By employing active listening skills, the use of the self, and a theology of Christian congregation as corporate soul, the author develops a compassionate diagnosis and interpretation of congregational life, including steps for improved congregational health and vitality.
